News and Events

All the BDS students reported to the college as per the KEA allotment in 2024 are hereby informed that the commencement of the BDS classes with the Orientation program will be held on 04th November 2024. Students are advised to report to the college along with their parents/guardians for the Orientation program. After the orientation program, the classes will be commenced regularly. 

Students admitted to the College Hostel can report to the Hostel with the Hostel fee receipt either on 03rd November or soon after the orientation programe and the commencement date, i.e from 04th November 2024.

Students seeking admission to the BDS course shall have to get the allotment only through Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).  If any candiadte has not registered in the KEA, such candiate can register in the KEA web portal up to 23/10/2024 for participating in the mop-up round conducted by the KEA.

TRICHOLOGY MASTERCLASS

                                    PROGRAMME REPORT

To expand the horizons of maxillofacial residents by laying a foundation in trichology and facial aesthetics, a masterclass programme was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Akshay Shetty, Head of the Department, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Prapanna Arya, Maxillofacial surgeon, Board certified aesthetician, Member of American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, renowned speaker and practitioner was the keynote speaker for the session held on 13th March, Wednesday, 2024 at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences And Hospital.

The programme was organised meticulously and hosted by Dr. Hemavathi U, Reader, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The audience comprised of post-graduate students and faculty from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The masterclass began with an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Hemavathi followed by sessions on Trichology, facial aesthetics and rejuvenation by Dr. Prapanna Arya. He also addressed the administrative, business management and marketing aspects for a burgeoning facial aesthetic practice.

The programme was concluded with an interactive discussion on medical information, hair loss therapy practical knowledge and guidance followed by felicitation of Dr. Prapanna Arya by Dr. Akshay Shetty and vote of thanks by Dr. Hemavathi.

A KSDC accredited CDE programme titled “Symposium on TMJ disorders” is organized by the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery on 21ST August 2019. It is a specialities’ focussed symposium involving departments of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Prosthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. A Preconference course titled “Virtual Surgical Planning and 3 D printing in oral and maxillofacial surgery” will be organized by the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery on 13th November 2019.It is part of the 44th annual conference of AOMSI(Association of oral and maxillofacial surgeons of india) being held in Bangalore from 14th to 16th November 2019.The preconference courses are being held across the city’s medical colleges, dental colleges and hospitals.

 

Dr. Akansha Singh (438/600) and Dr. Praveen Kumar (433/600), Postgraduate students of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery have secured sixth and eighth ranks respectively in the 2018 MDS exams of Rajiv Gandhi Univervarity of Health Sciences.

 

A two day CDE (continuing dental education programme) will be held on 13-11-2018 and 14-11-2018 on the theme “NEW FRONTIERS IN MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY” The programme is KSDC accredited carrying 12 points....

 

Dr. Saurabh Kale and Dr. Archana T S, postgraduate students of Department of oral and maxillofacial surgery have secured fifth and sixth ranks respectively in the MDS exams of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences held in August 2017.

 

The Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry organized a Dental Health Screening Camp for children from Li’L Butterflies School, Kanakanagar, R.T. Nagar 560032, in the school premises on 10th March 2018. The staff of the department, Dr.Santhosh Paul (Prof & Head), Dr. Umme Azher (Reader), & Dr. Divya Reddy (Reader) along with the postgraduate students and interns conducted the dental camp. A total of 34 children in the age group of 2 to 5 years accompanied by the parents participated in the camp. Oral health screening was performed for the children in the school premises. Also, the parents were addressed and Dr. Divya Reddy delivered a talk on the importance of maintaining good oral health and the methods to maintain it in children.

 

Dr.M.Deepa doing Internship at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences & Hospital has Won The First prize for MCQ test Conducted by Indian Dental Association Karnataka, in the subject of Conservative and Endodontics. She is given Dr.B.Subhas Chandra Shetty award. She has also scored First prize in Prosthodontics and given Dr.U.S.Krishna Nayak award. The MCQ was held for the year 2017 presented at the 45th Karnataka State Dental conference and the 4th Inter-State Dental Conference held at Davangere. Karnataka.

 

 

DR AKASH SHAJU, studying for MDS in the speciality of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at SRGCDS is awarded 2nd PRIZE in PAPER PRESENTATION during the 7th Annual Karnataka State Conference of AOMSI held at Mangalore, organised by the Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India held on 28.08.2017.

 

Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology organised CDE Workshop on CBCT, held on March 08, 2018.

The programe was organised in association with Iconic Dental Care, Bangalore. Dr. Praveen Birur, HoD in Oral Medicine & Radiology from KLE Dental College, Bangalore was the Guest Speaker for the event. All PG students and staff had attended the workshop.

 

Staff and postgraduate students of Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry attended the National conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry held at Chennai from 14th to 16th September 2017. The following staff members made research presentations.
1. Dr. Umme Azher (Reader) - presented a research paper on the stress levels among the Pediatric Dentists especially while treating very young children.
2. Dr. Divya Reddy (Reader) - presented a research paper on the dental discomfort and/or pain in children with Autism spectrum disorder using Dental Discomfort Questionnaire.
3. Dr. Smitha M (Senior lecturer) - presented a research paper on the clinical evaluation of nanofilled and microfilled pit and fissure sealants on permanent mandibular first molar.
Dr. Santhosh T Paul, Professor and Head, chaired a scientific session of faculty paper presentations.

 

On the occasion of Children’s Day (November 14th, 2017), an Oral health checkup and painting/colouring competition was conducted by the Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry for the children from nearby schools. Children who participated in the colouring and painting competition belonged to 6-8 year and 09-11 year age groups respectively. An oral health education talk was delivered by Interns on the importance of teeth and relevance of maintaining good oral hygiene to the kids. Our Principal, Dr. Sushant Anant Pai felicitated the children from different schools who won the prizes. H.O.D’s from other departments also graced the occasion. Refreshments and gifts were also arranged for the children who participated.

 

A dental quest was organized by Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Virajpet on the 27th and 28th of February. Ponnamma C.C, an intern, participated in this quest and presented a case on Plexiform Ameloblasoma which was diagnosed and operated in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences and Hospital. She won the third prize for the paper presentation.  

 

Dr. Dilshad Cawas Motishaw, post graduate student of MDS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics  at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences secured the prize for the best Oral Paper Presentation on ‘A comparative evaluation of antibacterial activity and fluoride release of Glass Ionomer Cement and Cention N; an ‘alkasite’ restorative material- an in-vitro study held from 23rd to 26th November 2017 at GDCH, Ahmedabad.

Dr.Nida Ahmed, post graduate student from department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery has presented a paper titled ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY and won the 3rd  prize in the Baptist Clinical Meet held in Bangalore Baptist Hospital on 8/03/2017.The contest was open to postgraduates from General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics,  Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Community Medicine, Anaesthesia and Emergency  Medicine departments.

 

 

We are proud to announce that on occasion of the endo and cons week intercollegiate competition on "tooth preparation on typhodonts ", conducted on 9th of march by KLE Dental College Bangalore, where 13 colleges participated and the best students in tooth preparation were taken part, our student Neil James of second year has secured first place in isthmus -2017, Inter college tooth preparation competition.

 

Foreign national students seeking admission to the BDS course during the year 2017 shall appear in the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) conducted by the CBSE and shall qualify the same with the requisite percentile score as notified by the Dental Council of India.
The application for the NEET 2017 will be notified in the CBSE web portal which is expected by the third week of January 2017. Students are advised to keep checking and apply well on time in order to appear the Test.

 

PG Student of Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences & Hospital, appeared in the MDS examination in June 2016 has scored 6th Rank in university for the speciality of Oral Medicine and Radiology. The faculties and management congratulate her for the achievement in the university exam.

 

The final year post graduate students attended the first state level conference organized by Oxford Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore on 12th April 2016 which was themed as ``ODONTOPLEXUS`` in which posters and paper presentations was done by post graduate students of more than 15 dental college from Bangalore. Dr. Md Zaighum Raza and Dr. Sreedevi CR presented a poster on Biomimetic material: The future of dentistry featuring different case reports, and were awarded the best poster in the event. Dr. Prince K Prasannan presented a paper titled Natural dental implants and was awarded the best paper.

 

 

Dr. Archana T S, post graduate student in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences, has secured third prize in E-poster presentation during the 41st AOMSI national conference held on 24th to 26th November 2016 at Ahmedabad.

 

 

The Faculty and post graduate students from the Department of Paedodontics & Preventive dentistry attended the 38th Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry National Conference held at Kochi, Kerala from 20th Oct 2016 to 22nd Oct 2016 and participated in the scientific programs.
Dr. Santhosh T. Paul, Professor & Head of the Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, was invited as the guest speaker. He enlightened the audience with the changing concepts of dental caries removal, with his presentation titled “The Enigma of Caries Removal”. He also chaired a scientific session. Dr. Umme Azher, Reader in the Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry presented a case report titled, “Orthodontic interception of ectopically erupting permanent maxillary first molars” and also chaired a scientific session. The post graduate students from the department, Dr. Ronin Sebatian, Dr. Vishnu Kannan, Dr. Blossom Fernandes, Dr. Sarah Elizabeth, Dr. Zeena Abduali also presented original research papers on the studies conducted by them in the department. The faculty Dr. Umme Azher & Dr. Divya Reddy and Dr. Mihir Nayak & Dr. Smitha M also participated in an online essay competition conducted by the Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry and have been awarded with certificates in appreciation of their participation. Dr. Mihir Nayak & Dr. Smitha M also bagged the first prize in the essay competition on the topic “Research, Education and Service: Are we in a Whirlpool?”, for which they have been rewarded with a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize. Dr. Shradha Pradhan and Dr. Shreya Pradhan, interns, who participated in the online essay competition in the undergraduate category under the guidance of the faculty of Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, bagged the second prize for the same. They too were awarded with a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize.

Dr. Prince K Prasannan presented a paper titled Natural dental implants and was awarded the best paper.

 

The Dental College Celebrated Graduation Ceremony on 24.09.2016 during its Silver Jubilee in the presence of Dr. K.S. Ravindranath, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, being the Chief Guest of the function. Both the under graduation and post graduation passed out graduates have attended in the ceremony function. College Principal, Dr. Achut Devarhubli,  College Chairman, Shri P. Sadasivan and the Vice chancellor of the university addressed the gathering. Passed out graduates have received certificates from the Vice Chancellor.

 

Dr. Mihir Nayak, Senior Lecturer, Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, has been awarded the Fellowship of Indian Board of Forensic Odontology (FIBFO) at the 14th National IAFO Conference held at Chandigarh (23rd – 25th September 2016).

 

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science has awarded Gold medal to Dr. Divya Dayanand, who has passed out from Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences & Hospital for scoring highest marks in the university examination for the subject of Public Health Dentistry. She has scored 82.5% marks in the subject. The management and staff members have immense pride and congratulate her.

 

Department of Periodontics at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of dental sciences and hospital in association with Bangalore academy of Periodontics (BAP) conducted Periocharcha debate on 31st march 2016 on the topic “statistical significance not the clinical relevance is the need of the hour in periodontal research”. The guest speaker for the program was Dr.A.V.Ramesh, BAP convener. The judges for the debate were Dr.Faizuddin and Dr.Shantipriya Reddy. Dr.Vaibhavi Joshipura and Dr.Sarita Joshi Narayan were present as the moderator for the event. The program was conducted among 14 colleges and about 22students participated in the event.

 

Students of Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences & Hospital has celebrated the Cultural Fest 2016 in the college campus on April 01 and 02, 2016, named the event as "Avalanche 2K16". Dr. Qurrathul Ain, post graduate student of MDS in Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences has secured first prize in poster presentation during the 17th IACDE-IES PG Convention held on 01st to 3rd April 2016 at People's Dental College, Bhopal.

 

 Workshop on anti-ragging was conducted by the dental college on March 02nd 2016 at 09.00 AM in the college auditorium. Dr. Shiva Sharan Shetty, DCI member addressed the gathering. Dr. Vaibhavi Joshipura, Principal of the Dental College, Dr. Achut Devarahalli, Senior faculty and HoD, Dept of Prosthodontics and Sub-Inspector of Police, Hebbal Police Station were also present and highlighted the workshop by detailing the definitions of ragging, administrative and legal actions in the event of any case of ragging reported to the members of Anti-ragging committee or Anti-ragging squad of the dental college. Students, parents, hostel warden, faculties, legal advisers, administrative staff, students representatives were present in the workshop.  Students were also distributed leaflets with information about Anti-ragging policy of the institution.

 

CDE program on ALTERNATE SYSTEM OF PAIN MANAGEMENT USING DRY NEEDLE THERAPY was held on 8th February 2016 by the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology.  

 

https://www.srgcds.ac.in/sites/default/files/dhanta.jpgThe Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge has taken steps for providing complete Dentures to senior citizens with BPL Card, under the scheme Danta Bhagya Yojana Scheme of the State Government of Karnataka. The dental college has adopted Doddabalapur under the said scheme. It has conducted a dental camp on 08th January 2016 at General Hospital, Doddabalapur for the registration of patients under the scheme and more than 60 patients are registered for treatment on that day.

 

Dr. Pinhaz A Shersiya, a post graduate student in the speciality of Oral Pathology & Microbiology at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Science & Hospital is awarded for presenting the best paper in the topic of Colposcopy: Vision towards future diagnostic aid at the XII National Triple 'O' Symposium 2014 held at Udaipur on 08th - 09th March 2014.

 

Dr. Pinhaz A Shersiya, a post graduate student in the speciality of Oral Pathology & Microbiology at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Science & Hospital has participated in the Quiz competition and scored third prize in the XII National Triple 'O' Symposium 2014 held at Udaipur on 08th - 09th March 2014.

DENTAL SIMULATION EDUCATION

A CDE programme and demonstration titled “DENTAL SIMULATION EDUCATION” was conducted by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences and Hospital on 18th May 2022. It was a KSDC accredited programme carrying 02 points. The guest speakers included Dr.Nishhaa Shetty (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Associated with Medical simulation for the last 8 years), Mr. Tapa Bhattacharya (from the team of RNT Med simulation) and Mr.Emmanuel Felix (Product manager from EPED, Taiwan) The participants included post graduate students of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and faculty of Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences and Hospital .

 

Congratulations to Dr.MK Aparna for securing second prize in Essay writing Competition – All India Category on “SCALING UP SKILLS IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY” conducted as a part of 25 th MIDCOMS by the Association of oral and maxillofacial surgeons of India, Tamilnadu & Puducherry branch in July 2022.

 

Dr Geetika Gupta, doing internship at Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of dental sciences has won the first prize for scientific paper presentation on "Evaluation of causes for failure of oral implants : A retrospective study and role of CBCT in oral implantology" done under the guidance of faculty of department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the three days "National OMR Consortium - An Advocacy : Season II " .The event was organized by the Dept of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences , Rama University Mandhana , Kanpur from 5th May to 7th May 2022
